NCW Students Visit London to Watch Matilda!

It is well known that musical theatre at NCW is extremely popular. Therefore, when the Activities Team organised a trip to the magical West End to see “Matilda the Musical,” enthusiastic musical theatre fans signed up right away.

Last weekend, students left our campus in Worcester very early and quickly arrived in London, where they had the opportunity to put their mobility skills to the test as they navigated the underground and the busy streets to the theatre.

Not only did they enjoy a day in London soaking in the sights and watching “Matilda the Musical,” but they also had a fantastic touch tour before the show. The touch tour allowed our students to access the set, costumes and props of the production. The students LOVED the engaging touch tour which helped them visualise the set in a fun and relevant way.

Opportunities like these are vital for our students. Not only is it wonderful for them to get off campus and experience new things, but it also helps them develop their confidence and prepare them for life beyond NCW.

Here’s what our students had to say:

Going to see Matilda in London was great fun even though it was a really early start! The best part of the day was the touch tour. I liked touching the plate of cakes and the mega phone used in the show. I loved stopping at the services and paying for my cup of tea on my apple watch although I did burn my tongue a little as it was hot ! Thank you to everyone who took us it was a great day out!

Matilda was very good and well planned and organised. The music within the play was really good. We managed to find our seats really easily. And the play as a whole was really good. We got to try out some of the equipment that was going to be used in the show, for example a mega phone.

It was a really long day but was amazing watching our students navigate around London including the chaotic london underground .Watching them rise to the challenges in front of them was inspirational. The whole group of us gelled together sharing some hilarious moments too. The show was incredible with some outstanding performances which we all enjoyed sharing our views on the journey home. These days out are so important for our students ,giving them the opportunity to put into practice the skills they learn at college.
