Skiing Adventure with NCW: Breaking Barriers and Expanding Horizons

At NCW, we firmly believe that trips—both abroad and within the UK—provide incredible opportunities for our students to immerse themselves in new cultures, embrace fresh experiences and broaden their horizons. We are committed to ensuring that vision impairment and sight loss never stand in the way of such life-changing adventures.

One of the highlights of our annual activity programme is our ski trip, which allows students to try something new and exciting. For many, this trip marks several milestones: their first time abroad, their first time skiing, and often, their first time going on holiday with the school.

At the end of last year, a group of NCW students embarked on a thrilling adventure to Italy, ready to embrace the slopes. Their dreams of fresh snow and fantastic skiing conditions were fully realised! Over the course of five days, the students spent five hours each day on the slopes, receiving expert instruction from a team of professional instructors skilled in teaching people with vision impairments how to ski.

The students received one-to-one or one-to-two lessons. Their progress throughout the trip was nothing short of amazing. By the end of the week, they had gained confidence and skill on the slopes, accomplishing more than they had ever imagined.

The resort, Sauz D’oux, lived up to expectations and the group was even fortunate enough to have the entire hotel to themselves, adding an extra layer of excitement to the trip.

This ski trip is just one example of how we at NCW are dedicated to providing opportunities that allow our students to break through barriers and embrace all the world has to offer.

We look forward to next year’s trip and many more exciting adventures ahead!

"The ski trip is an annual highlight in the NCW calendar, one that all our students look forward to. It offers them the chance to embrace new sports and experiences. The students were nothing short of amazing—they took everything in their stride and relished the opportunity. They represented the college to the highest standard and worked incredibly well with the ski school. This is what makes NCW so special—the incredible opportunities we provide, which will stay with our students for a lifetime."

Listen to Lawson's thoughts on skiing in Italy!
"We went to a ski resort in the Italian Alps. We stayed at the hotel for four days and nights. We had coach trip to the airport then on the plane. I personally moved to the next colour run which was amazing!. The group of instructors were excellent and work with visually impaired people and people with Cerebral palsy to teach them how to ski. I had great laugh and the food was AMAZING."
