At the end of November a small group of students and staff were privileged to contribute to RNIB’s Braille 200 Library Tour.

We took a wide range of items that show how braille is taught and learned at New College Worcester and we also enjoyed looking at other exhibitors’ stands.  Visitors were particularly impressed with Mrs Williams innovative pre-braille resources and Fin’s demonstration of the Brailliant and his Alva.

Miss Potter  gave a keynote presentation during which she interviewed students and staff about their enjoyment of  Braille – how we use it, what it means to us, how we combine it with other tools such as audio. It was great to get those with no braille experience using the Perkins braillers that we took and teach them a bit about the working of braille. We made some useful contacts and it was good to learn about other organisations as well as to show off New College – especially with our brand new Braille 200 banner!

The students really enjoyed the opportunity to take on the role of the expert and were a credit to themselves and the college.

I was so proud of our students in the way they interacted with the public and how they spoke during our presentation.  Oh, yeah, and the staff were first class as well.
