A most loved event in the NCW calendar is the yearly visit to London to watch the London Marathon. A chance to be right at the finish line, soak up the atmosphere and witness one of the greatest sporting events in the UK!
This year was no different and on Sunday 21st April a group of students and staff got up very early and travelled to London to watch the TCS 2024 London Marathon. Our friends at VICTA, a charity supporting young people with vision impairment, kindly invited NCW students and staff to join them in Charity Grandstand to cheer the runners on. Arguably the best seats to watch all the action.
There were a few sleepy students on the drive to London but by the time the tube station was reached, everyone was eager to see the action. For some students, this was the first time they had been on a tube and excitement levels were high!
A quick tube ride later, a stroll across Green Park, a peak at Buckingham Palace (to see if the King was in residence) and then the group were in their seats with VICTA in the Charity Grandstand.
I think it was a very good opportunity and I would definitely do it again! The crowds were overwhelming but it was amazing to experience something new! I fell asleep on the tube which was really funny!

It was such a good day. I enjoyed being able to cheer the runners on. The tube was busy and we missed our station so had to come back on ourselves! It was an adventure! It was a long day - but so worth it! The McDonalds at the end was a real treat.

It was the BEST day! I LOVED the tube! It was my first time on a tube and I loved the speed and the sounds of the wheels on the track. The runners were amazing and there was so much cheering - it almost sounds like a rugby stadium!

VICTA t-shirts and were given to students along with clap banners to make a big noise as the runners came past! Students even had the signature VICTA rainbow painted on their face to show their support for the over 200 runners running for VICTA.
The atmosphere was electric and everyone was on their feet singing and dancing to classics such as, ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo.’
Our thanks go to VICTA for the wonderful opportunity to join them. VICTA is a national charity that provides support to children and young adults blind or partially sighted and their families.
