The current Moorfields Eye Hospital, over 100 years old, no longer meets the needs of today’s patients. Oriel is the joint partnership between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) and Moorfields Eye Charity that will move services from Islington to a new, integrated centre in St Pancras, Camden.

Due to open in 2027, the centre will bring clinicians from the hospital’s City Road site and scientists under one roof for the first time. The centre for advancing eye health has been co-designed by staff, patients and partners to ensure it offers an inclusive environment where innovative research will flourish, staff will thrive and patients will experience an enhanced seamless patient experience.

We are thrilled that Mrs Emma Williams, NCW’s ADL (Activities for Daily Living) Teacher and a former NCW student, is part of one of the  Oriel advisory group ensuring  the new centre is accessible.

“I am the NCW representative, but I also bring my personal VI knowledge and expertise. The group includes current Moorfields patients and VI professionals. We are working on strategies such as wayfinding to the site, navigating the new building and ensuring accessibility for visually impaired people and those with other disabilities.”

At NCW, we take pride in empowering our students to advocate for their accessibility needs and are honoured to have a voice in the VI community that helps drive positive change.

The new centre is set to open its doors in 2027.
