This week, we were thrilled to welcome Autism West Midlands to NCW to conduct informative Autism Awareness sessions for our students.

Autism West Midlands is a leading charity in the region, dedicated to supporting autistic individuals of all ages, from children to adults, as well as their families and caregivers. With a team of passionate and knowledgeable staff and volunteers, the organization provides invaluable support to people across various age groups and abilities.

Autism is a lifelong developmental difference that presents both challenges and unique strengths. In the UK, approximately 700,000 individuals, both children and adults, are autistic, with 60,000 of them living in the West Midlands alone.

"Students had the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the impact their autism has on them through positive small group discussions led by AWM. It was great to hear so many students speak confidently about the things they find challenging and staff found this useful to be able to support students better.  Feedback from students will feed into our self-audit for the Autism Accreditation award. We look forward to hosting Autism West Midlands for more workshops in the future and working together to develop both our knowledge of autism and their knowledge of vision impairment which will lead to improved opportunities for students. Thank you to Autism West Midlands, students and staff who took part."

"We had a great morning visiting the students and staff at New College Worcester, to deliver talks about autism, and tell them about the support we offer at Autism West Midlands. All the staff were lovely, and the students were eager to share their own unique experiences and help eachother. It also provided us with knowledge on the connection between visual impairment and autism that we are looking forward to building upon with New College Worcester in the future.’
